About the Author

Michael Heller, a professional photographer who resides in East Hampton, Long Island, New York, has been writing and photographing for over 28 years. For the past several years, he has written and illustrated numerous articles for Firehouse Magazine and National Fire & Rescue Magazine, documenting the involvement of the fire service with such events as  the  Super Bowl, the Indianapolis 500, Spring Break in Panama City Beach, Florida, the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City and Mardi Gras in New Orleans. His writing and photography have garnered  Mr. Heller with numerous awards, including the Grand Prize “Golden Firefighter Award” in the international photography Bombero de Oro (”Fire Photography Contest”) given in Spain in 2004, as well as several first place trophies in both the New York Press Association and International Fire photographers Association annual contests.  In 2004, Mr. Heller published his first book, entitled “The Resplendent Demon” which contains over 80 pages of the finest fire scene photographs from the collection of the 911 Pictures stock photography agency, which he founded in 1996. Mr. Heller has also been an active, Class-A Certified Interior Firefighter with Hook & Ladder Co. #1 of the East Hampton Fire Department for the last 20 years. In 1992 he received the honor of Company Firefighter of the Year. Today, Mr. Heller continues to work as a writer, photojournalist and documentary photographer, and maintains a portfolio of his work on the web at www.hellercreative.com.
